Since the Friends of Big Rock Garden Park (FBRGP) is a (non-profit) corporate entity separate from the city of Bellingham, volunteering with FBRGP does not automatically make one a volunteer at the park itself. FBRGP has a close relationship with the City of Bellingham, but neither side can act directly on behalf of the other.

The process to being a full-fledged volunteer able to both with with the non-profit to advocate for the park and to also work in the park therefore has 2-steps. Roughly, one passes through the park stewardship process with the city of Bellingham, and also joins the non-profit itself.
